A one-day public presentation offering a rare glimpse into works both completed and still evolving.
Amici Studio launches In Progress, a new artist-led series that opens space for artists to develop work outside the pressures of a traditional exhibition timeline. Rather than presenting only finished outcomes, In Progress focuses on the act of making, creating a framework where process, experimentation and conversation can unfold alongside one another.
The first artist to occupy the studio is internationally acclaimed thread painter and colourist Ptolemy Mann, who will spend a week developing a new series of large gestural paintings on paper. Known for her labour-intensive woven works grounded in colour theory and Chromatic Minimalism, Mann uses this residency to explore the speed, freedom and immediacy that painting offers alongside her slower thread-based practice.
During the residency, Amici Studio functions primarily as a working environment. By inviting audiences into the space at this stage, In Progress seeks to dissolve the boundary between studio practice and the finished “product” typically encountered in a conventional solo exhibition.
Access to the studio throughout the week is by appointment only, allowing focused time for making while maintaining opportunities for dialogue and mentoring.
Rooted in Amici Studio’s commitment to collaboration, mentorship and shared learning, In Progress positions the studio as a site of active production, not just presentation.
